Sport Diddy's PE Challenges help schools meet Ofsted goals for children's personal development, and justify the PE Premium
Sport Diddy helps schools make sport fun, easy and valuable for children and schools. Our PE Challenges can help with Ofsted checks on personal development (as introduced in the September 2019 Inspection Framework) and support annual justification of the PE Premium grant.
GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES ON ACTIVITY
The UK government’s 2019 School Sport and Activity Plan says children should have access to at least 60 minutes of sport and physical activity per day, 30 minutes of which should be delivered within the school day, and 30 minutes outside school hours.
The Plan highlights benefits such as improvements to children’s physical and mental wellbeing, and development of important skills like teamwork and leadership. At Sport Diddy we also see personal confidence and positive, fun family time (in the case of sport done outside school hours) as key outcomes too.
For schools, the Plan notes that ensuring young people have access to the right amount of daily activity can have wider benefits - improving behaviour as well as enhancing learning and academic achievement.
OFSTED REVIEWS
Ofsted’s September 2019 Inspection Framework gives greater recognition to schools’ work to support the personal development of pupils, such as opportunities to learn about maintaining an active lifestyle. Opportunities to be active through the day and through extra-curricular activities are encouraged. Sport Diddy embraces this for all children, making sport fun and enjoyable for all, regardless of starting point - not just those who naturally excel at sport.
PE PREMIUM
To help achieve the desired outcome of a positive experience of sport and physical activity at young age, schools can apply for a PE Premium grant “to make sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered through their core budgets”. It is allocated directly to schools, so they have the flexibility to use it in the way that works best for their pupils. The amount of grant depends on the number of pupils per school, but as an indication a 250-pupil school would receive £18,500 per year.
Sport Diddy helps with at least 3 of the 5 key indicators where the premium should secure improvements and is a measurable way to show the impact of the PE Premium at the end of the school year. We think we provide pretty amazing value given that a Sport Diddy PE Challenges for Schools subscription is only about 1-2% of the pupil premium!
